Lyman T. Johnson changed the history of UK and many other facilities, and for that he was awarded with 200 awards and recognition's, including four Honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Louisville, University of Kentucky, Spalding University, and Bellarmine. Even though his era has passed remembering his legacy has not. Some of the things the University of Kentucky did was create an Alumni group called “Lyman T. Johnson African American Alumni group”, and they promote, initiate activities, strategies, and services that address the need for inclusion. There also currently two fellowships in his honor that help cover expenses for graduate students, one is worth $35,000 and the other is 15,000. Another program initiated is an award for 3,000 that the student government association rewards a student who exemplifies the spirit and dedication of Lyman. His act was so immense that in fall 2015 they changed the name of a residence to Lyman T. Johnson to commemorate what he did for the University. |
